Non-Friable (Bonded) Asbestos Removal in Canberra

Non-friable asbestos is material containing asbestos that is not friable: WorkSafe ACT names asbestos cement (fibro), brake linings and vinyl floor tiles as examples. Removing it needs a Class B asbestos removal licence, or a Class A licence, which also covers it. A Class B licence holder may remove only non-friable material.

What non-friable asbestos removal in Canberra actually involves

WorkSafe ACT's fact sheet for pre-1990 homes names roof sheeting, gutters, downpipes, ridge capping, eaves, cladding and electrical switchboards outside the house; wall and ceiling panels, vinyl floor tiles, tile backing and hot water pipe insulation inside; and fences, sheds, garages, carports, dog kennels, buried or dumped waste, letterboxes and swimming pools around the property.

Same rules, any amount

The ACT has no area under which non-friable removal can be done without a licence: the national model regulations' exception for up to 10 m² does not apply here. The friable page covers the Class A work, and the disposal page covers where the packed sheets go.

A Class B licence holder cannot remove friable material too: only a Class A licence holder can remove friable asbestos.
